ERMENEGILDO ZEGNA COUTURE UNVEILS EXCLUSIVE WINDOW PROJECT FOR HARRODS

Under the direction of Stefano Pilati, Head of Design, the Ermenegildo Zegna Couture AW14 collection celebrates natural fibers, exploring and validating the brands heritage, pioneering vision and technological values. Historically the emotional impulse to build has always been inspired by the beauty and majesty of nature. For Zegna nature is strength, progress and research.

From October 2nd to October 19th 2014, the entire front windows series of Harrods department store will be taken over by Ermenegildo Zegna Couture. An astrological film created in collaboration with Stefano Pilati that featured as the backdrop to the Autumn Winter 2014 fashion show, forms the framework of the Harrods window campaign.

The astrological film depicts a real scientific path which is traced by astrophysicist Fiorella Terenzi, Professor of Astronomy at Florida International University (FIU), and Professor Neil deGrasse Tyson, Director of Hayden Planetarium, who together formulated a set of trajectories created in unique movement that fuse the primordial universe with the Milan CityLife Palace, where the collection was debuted. The soundtrack captured the waves from space, which were converted into sound, and then transformed into music, blended with Tchaikovsky and the sound of contemporary life within the cities of Milan, New York and Shanghai, selected by Stefano Pilati.

The opening series of 23 windows commences with a number of angled mirrors that create a sphere effect to capture the essence of the scientific path. Frenetic energy inspired from the film is reflected via faded city backdrops juxtaposed against mannequins that are either stationary or revolve rapidly to symbolize the fast pace of city life. The journey through the primordial universe consolidates with a futuristic fully responsive interactive window, redefining the window shopping experience by using the first 'natural gesture' Timeslice Film Technology, to showcase the shoe in 3D high definition. Sensitive to natural body language, the shoe unmistakably talks to the shopper through movement, revealing a 360 degree view of the hero Double Monk shoe, that features within the Harrods accessories collection.

Whispering window technology has been utilized to share the sounds of space and of Tchaikovsky with pedestrians on Brompton Road. An over arch concept of macro to micro depicts Ermenegildo Zegna Couture’s global style and the universal balance is emphasized throughout the windows galactic run, playing on contrasts between zoomed in micro details and pictures of the earth from space.

Under the direction of Stefano Pilati, Head of Design, the Ermenegildo Zegna Couture AW14 aesthetic and vision looks to the origins of the future, an innovative identity and perspective to contextualise fashion through clothes that are the epitome of luxury.

To coincide with the window project, Ermenegildo Zegna Couture introduces an accessories collection featuring Stefano Pilati’s first ‘house bag’. Enriching the AW14 luxury aesthetic the Couture Bag is freely constructed in a choice of three precious leathers, and five colour variants. The Double Monk Shoe presents an enriched brogue with traditional Goodyear construction. Both the Couture Bag and Double Monk are completed with Stefano Pilati’s hand-stitched signature the ‘XXX’ and available in colourways exclusive to Harrods.

Ermenegildo Zegna Couture’s astrological film will debut on www.zegna.com and www.harrods.com on October 2nd 2014.
